.XXX FAQs

Any adult webmasters and intellectual property holders in both the Adult and non-Adult space will be allowed register their .XXX domains.

As long as you fit the definition of the Sponsored Community and authenticate correctly, your domain will resolve and it can be redirected.

Check the registry rules at www.icmregistry.com for details about the right Sunrise period for you.

In this example the applicant may apply either for a domain name backed by a trademark or grandfathered via an existing domain name.

The registry is running all Sunrise periods at the same time.

Sunrise AT and Sunrise AD have priority over Sunrise B. For multiple applications in Sunrise AT and or Sunrise AD, competing applications will go to an auction. For example, in the scenario where valid applications are submitted in each of the three sunrise periods, the domain would go to one auction for all of the applicants in Sunrise AT and Sunrise AD together. Sunrise B applicants would not participate in the auction and would not be allowed to block the domain.

No, there is no first come, first served rush. You must enter all domains between September 07 – October 28, 2011.

You will get refunded only for the Registration Fee. Any Application Fees are non-refundable.

For Sunrise AT and Sunrise B you can enter many domains at the same time. Be careful though, they all must have identical IPR information. If each domain has separate IPR information, they should be entered separately. For Sunrise AD, you can only enter in one domain at a time.

Eventually yes, but not during the Sunrise validation periods.

Visit the “My Queued Domains” section of the Pre-Registration area. You will see up-to-date statuses of your application(s).

Create date is the date that the domain goes live in the Registry. For domains awarded during Sunrise or Landrush the creation date will be on or before General Availability of December 6, 2011.

Registrants and Registrars will be notified as domains are awarded, but awarded domains will actually be created and allowed to resolve on or just before December 6, 2011. WHOIS information for these domains will be public on December 8, 2011.

The list will not be published, due to the sensitive nature of some terms.

The Sponsored Community is called International Foundation For Online Responsibility (www.iffor.org). You only need to belong to it if you wish to have your domain name resolve. Sponsored Community consists of individuals, business, entities, and organizations that fit one of the following descriptions:

• Provide Online Adult Entertainment intended for consenting adults (“Providers”) (e.g. adult webmasters, performers, studios, store owners, club operators);
• Represent Providers (“Representatives”) (e.g. lawyers, agents, advisors, accountants, affiliates); or
• Provide products or services to Providers and Representatives (“Service Providers”) (e.g. adult domainers, manufacturers, delivery companies, caterers, distribution companies, merchant account services, make up artists, stylists, hosting services).

1. Person/company submits an application for a name in Sunrise AT, Sunrise AD or Landrush through eNom.
2. ICM sends the person/company an introduction email with a validation link – to the Registrant Contact email address provided with their application.
3. The person/company clicks on the validation link within the ICM email and is directed to the ICM Membership Application.
4. The person/company fills out the ICM Membership Application — free of charge. (Takes about 5 minutes to complete – the Registrant will only have to do this one time per email account, not per domain.)
5. As a part of ICM's Membership Application, the person has to do the following:
   • Provide correct birth date information
   • Agree to ICM's terms of service
   • Attest to being a member of the Sponsored Community
6. ICM will validate certain contact details:
   • Address
   • Phone Number
7. ICM will call the phone number provided during the Membership Application
8. In that phone call, ICM will provide the person with a PIN # (real time) and the applicant will input the pin in the designated area in the Membership Application process.
9. Once the person completes the Membership Application, ICM provides the registrar a Membership Token thus allowing all of the .XXX domain names associated with that email account to resolve.

No, you do not need to be a member first. After you submit an application for Sunrise AT, Sunrise AD or Landrush your Registrant contact email address will receive an email to authenticate after the application has been submitted. You MUST complete the Sponsored Community authentication process by November 2nd at 16:00 UTC or the application will not be validated.

Your application will not be validated and you will not be refunded your application fee.

You will need to go to www.icmregistry.com for information on how to retrieve another email.

On or about November 11, 2011 the auction provider, Pool.com, will send the notification about auctions. It will come from no-reply@pool.com and contain an activation link for your account at Pool.com.

Yes. Competing applicants in Sunrise A and B will receive an IP Rights notification by email from ICM Registry on October 31st. The email will only contain information pertaining to Trademark numbers and Sunrise AD existing domains.

You will only be refunded the registration fee. Application fees are non-refundable.

Pool.com will notify the ICM Registry about auction winners, then ICM will notify eNom. After that we will automatically place the domain in your account. We anticipate this to be on or around December 06, 2011.

Anyone interested in registering a .XXX domain that is part of the Sponsored Community can register a domain without prior trademark rights, it is completely open.

Prior to Landrush and Sunrise periods, the registry reserved very high value domains that they will release at a later time. If the domain you want is on that list, you will not be able to get the domain during Landrush. Unfortunately, the list isn’t made publicly available.

If you are the only applicant for the domain there’s nothing more for you to do after you complete your application. It will be awarded to you around December 6, 2011. If more than one application exists for the domain, you will be sent auction information and will have to compete in a private auction against the other applicants to win the domain.

Yes, you must be a member of the sponsored community.

Sunrise AT (T=Trademark), is reserved for members of the Sponsored Community who currently hold a verifiable trademark prior to September 1, 2011.

Sunrise AT only has priority rights over Sunrise B. If another validated application is submitted in Sunrise AT and/or Sunrise AD, both applicants will compete against each other in an auction.

IPRota will notify eNom. eNom has a dedicated support staff trained in handling requests from the validation agent. You’ll be notified via email to your registrant contact email address from sunrise@enom.com with instructions.

Sunrise AD (D=Domain), is reserved for members of the Sponsored Community who own the exact-match domain names in other TLDs prior to February 1, 2010.

Two validation checks will be performed on Sunrise AD domain name applications. In order for the application to be successfully validated, at least one of these checks must pass. This string must appear in one or both of two locations as follows:

In an empty text (.txt) file, prefixed with IPROTA_ (including the underscore), and located in the document root of the website located at www.example.com as per the following example: IPROTA_[DOMAINID].txt

IPROTA_[DOMAINID] must be added to the TXT (Text) record of the DNS for the domain name example.com Electronic checks will be undertaken at regular intervals. Failure to place the DOMAINID in either Location 1 or Location 2 will result in an overall failure of the Sunrise AD application. However, providing a positive outcome is achieved on at least one check and the application qualifies in other respects, it will be validated.

There will be no auctions in Sunrise B. Successful applications do not receive an award of a domain – the block is simply applied to the string. So multiple applications for the same string will each be successful if the applicants’ marks are validated.

Yes, Sunrise B is a one-time fee.

WHOIS will reflect ICM Registry details. There is no Registrant ownership of the string in Sunrise B.

No. All Sunrise applications (A and B) are made on the basis of a one-time, non-refundable fee.

There are no refunds for Sunrise B applications. Each one will be validated.

If multiple applications are received during Sunrise B, all will be validated by the validation agent, IP Rota. If there are no competing applications in Sunrise A, as long as one of the multiple applications in Sunrise B is validated, a block will be applied to the string. We can accept multiple applications because there is no ownership of the domain. Competing Sunrise B apps will not be notified.

WHOIS will not show who the Registrar is for the block. It will just reflect ICM Registry.

No, there is no actual domain created during Sunrise B, so domains cannot resolve. Instead the domains are blocked from registration.
